Welcome to the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education at the Innovative University of Enga.

It is my pleasure to welcome students, faculty, partners, and visitors to our academic community. Our College is committed to preparing the next generation of educators, scholars, and leaders who will contribute meaningfully to the future of Papua New Guinea.

A central mission of the College is the preparation of highly qualified primary school teachers who will serve communities across the nation. We believe that strong foundations in education begin with well-prepared teachers who are knowledgeable, reflective, and dedicated to the success of every child. Through rigorous training, practical classroom experience, and a commitment to service, our teacher education programs aim to strengthen primary education throughout Papua New Guinea.

At the same time, the College provides undergraduate education grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Our programs in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics cultivate intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific understanding. We strive to equip students with the knowledge, analytical skills, and ethical awareness needed to address the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Bachelor of Education in Primary Teaching [B.Ed.]

Overview

The Bachelor of Education in Primary Teaching at the Innovative University of Enga is a four-year undergraduate programme (PNG NQF Level 7) designed to prepare professional teachers for primary schools in Papua New Guinea. The programme equips students with pedagogical knowledge, curriculum planning skills, classroom management strategies, and practical teaching experience, emphasizing learner-centered and inclusive education. Graduates will be able to plan, deliver, and assess effective teaching and learning experiences across the primary curriculum while responding to PNG’s linguistic, cultural, and community diversity.
  • Primary education is foundational to PNG’s national development and literacy goals.
  • Prepares graduates to meet the high demand for qualified teachers in PNG’s primary schools.
  • Emphasizes culturally responsive, inclusive, and learner-centered teaching.
  • Provides practical teaching experience through supervised practicum in schools.
  • Offers pathways to leadership roles, curriculum development, and postgraduate study in education.

Graduates of this programme will be able to:

  • Apply effective teaching methodologies and strategies suitable for primary learners.
  • Design, implement, and assess curriculum across key learning areas.
  • Manage classrooms safely, ethically, and inclusively.
  • Integrate ICT and innovative teaching resources into primary education.
  • Conduct educational research and apply evidence-based practices in teaching.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics, cultural awareness, and community engagement in educational settings.

Duration:

4 years full-time (8 semesters) or up to 8 years part-time.

Study Mode:

On-campus delivery with lectures, tutorials, workshops, school-based practicum, and independent study.

School Leavers

Grade 12 Higher School Certificate or equivalent with:

  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.8
  • B or better in English
  • B in Mathematics
  • B in a relevant subject (Science, Social Science, or Arts) preferred

Non-School Leavers

  • A diploma in Primary Education or a related field may be considered for credit transfer.

Mature-age Entry

  • Relevant work experience and successful completion of the university’s entry assessment process.

  • Awarded annually to high-achieving students.

External Sponsorships

  • Possible through education NGOs or government programs supporting primary teaching.

School Leavers

Apply through the DHERST National Online Selection System (NOSS).

Non-School Leavers

  • Apply directly to the IUE Admissions Office.
  • Submit certified academic transcripts, identification documents, and other required forms.
