College of Arts, Sciences, and Education

Welcome Message from the Dean

Welcome to the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education at the Innovative University of Enga.

It is my pleasure to welcome students, faculty, partners, and visitors to our academic community. Our College is committed to preparing the next generation of educators, scholars, and leaders who will contribute meaningfully to the future of Papua New Guinea.

A central mission of the College is the preparation of highly qualified primary school teachers who will serve communities across the nation. We believe that strong foundations in education begin with well-prepared teachers who are knowledgeable, reflective, and dedicated to the success of every child. Through rigorous training, practical classroom experience, and a commitment to service, our teacher education programs aim to strengthen primary education throughout Papua New Guinea.

At the same time, the College provides undergraduate education grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Our programs in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics cultivate intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific understanding. We strive to equip students with the knowledge, analytical skills, and ethical awareness needed to address the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Dr Kapil Dave [PhD]
Professor, Education and Sports Science

Our faculty members are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. Together, we seek to create an environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, pursue discovery, and apply their learning in ways that benefit their communities and the nation.

Whether you are a prospective student, a current member of our university, or a visitor exploring our work, I invite you to learn more about the programs and opportunities available within the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education.

We are proud to be part of the Innovative University of Enga and proud to contribute to the development of education and knowledge in Papua New Guinea.

Sincerely,

Bachelor of Science in Physics [B.Sc.]

Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Physics at the Innovative University of Enga is a four-year undergraduate programme (PNG NQF Level 7) designed to develop a deep understanding of the fundamental laws of nature, from the subatomic to the cosmic scale. The programme combines theoretical foundations with practical laboratory and computational skills. Students will explore classical mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, quantum physics, and modern applications in electronics, materials science, and renewable energy. Graduates are equipped for careers in education, research, engineering, technology, and applied sciences, both in Papua New Guinea and internationally.
  • Physics underpins technological advancement and is essential for innovation in energy, communication, materials, and medical technology.
  • High demand for physics-trained graduates in PNG’s resource, energy, and education sectors.
  • Offers problem-solving, analytical, and research skills applicable across multiple industries.
  • Provides a pathway to postgraduate study in physics, engineering, or interdisciplinary sciences.

Graduates of this programme will be able to

  • Apply advanced physical principles to analyse and solve theoretical and applied problems.
  • Design and conduct experiments, collect accurate data, and interpret results using appropriate scientific methods.
  • Use computational tools and mathematical modelling in physics problem-solving.
  • Communicate complex physical concepts clearly in oral, written, and graphical forms.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics, safety practices.
  • Critically evaluate physical phenomena and their applications in societal and industrial contexts.
