BRIEF SUMMARY REPORT ON BLOCK 4 INTENSIVE TRAINING

The Block 4 Intensive Training was the final training block under the Diploma in Teaching Primary (In-Service) Teacher Upgrade Program, a government-to-government initiative between the Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG) and the Government of Australia (GoA) through the Partnerships for Improving Education (PIE) program.

The program recognizes the valuable contribution of elementary teachers who volunteered to support children’s foundational literacy and numeracy during challenging times. It provides teachers with a pathway to upgrade their qualifications and strengthen their capacity to implement the Standards-Based Curriculum (SBC) under the newly introduced 1-6-6 National Education System.

The two-week Block 4 Intensive Training was conducted at the Innovative University of Enga (IUE) from 6 to 17 July 2026, covering the final two courses:

  • 6–10 July 2026: EDHU103 – Social Science Education
  • 13–17 July 2026: EDCCVE204 – Citizenship and Christian Values Education

The training was highly intensive, with approximately 10 contact hours per day and 50 hoursper week, including morning, afternoon, and evening sessions. Each course concluded with participants completing Task 1 (Test) on Friday morning, followed by the first component of the self-learning assessment, Micro-Teaching, on Friday afternoon.

On 14–15 July 2026, PIE Teacher Upgrade Manager, Mr Simon Kaldy, visited IUE and met with the participating elementary teachers. He encouraged them to remain committed, work hard, and complete their outstanding assessments to be eligible for graduation in December 2026.

The Block 4 Intensive Training concluded successfully on 17 July 2026, followed by a Block 4 Completion and Celebration Dinner, which recognized and celebrated the commitment, resilience and achievements of the 215 participating teachers throughout the program.
