Message from the President – IUE Campus-Wide Technology Upgrade

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, and Friends of IUE,

I am pleased to announce that the Innovative University of Enga has begun a campus-wide technology
upgrade valued at more than K17 million. Work starts immediately at our Irelya, Sopas, and Akom campuses and is scheduled for completion within eight months. It is one of the largest investments in the short history of our university, and it will change the daily experience of every member of our community.

Since my arrival, I have heard the same message in every conversation with students and staff: unreliable power, weak connectivity, and scarce learning materials stand between our people and their potential. This project answers that message directly.

What the project delivers

• Reliable power. New large-capacity generators will supply campus-wide electricity, and smaller dedicated
  generators will keep servers and Wi-Fi running through the night
• High-speed connectivity. New Starlink terminals at every campus, supported by new servers and a modern
  IT backbone linking Irelya, Sopas, and Akom into a single, resilient network.
• Wi-Fi in every dormitory, so students can study, research, and complete coursework from where they live.
• 650 new open-access computer lab seats across the three campuses.
• Digital textbooks for every course in every discipline, beginning in Academic Year 2027.
• Two new programming labs and a Cisco Networking lab, giving students hands-on experience with
  industry-standard tools.

What this means for you

For students, it means the lights and the network stay on when you need them, your textbooks are in your hands on the first day of class, and you graduate with skills that employers in Papua New Guinea and beyond are looking for. For faculty and staff, it means the infrastructure to teach, research, and administer a modern university without workarounds.

Reliable power, fast connectivity, and access to learning materials are no longer luxuries for a university. They are essentials. An investment of this scale reflects a clear commitment to our students and to Enga Province, and I am grateful to everyone whose support made it possible.

Construction and installation on this scale will bring some disruption. I ask for your patience where work is under way, and I will share progress updates with the community as each phase is completed.
